12 ways to get high without smoking weed

So, you’ve given up cannabis or your thinking about it and I get asked all the time how am I going to get high without smoking weed. And other questions like these:

  • What do I do when I feel bored?
  • How will I sleep at night?
  • Can I replace the high?
  • What will I do in the evenings?
  • What if I just wanna smoke?

Well, the answers are quite easy. Remember when you were a kid? You were happy at times then before the weed took over. You can be happy again.

You will experience fantastic highs without resorting to marijuana-fuelled cancer sticks

Here are some ideas of things you can do to replace the all-too-easy answer of smoking a joint when you haven’t got anything better to do.

1. Hook up with an old friend

Have you lost touch with someone you really loved from yesteryear? I’m sure they’d appreciate a call. You don’t need to go round and see them. Just say you wondered how they’re getting along. (Make sure this is a straight friend, not a smoker for now.)

2. Treat yourself

You give up weed. Congratulations, I hardly need to tell you how much money you’re saving. So, spend a little of it. Buy a ridiculously expensive item from a shop next time, like a premium brand coffee, soap, cologne, etc., something you wouldn’t ordinarily buy. Or treat yourself another way.

3. Smile

Smile to yourself.

4. Change your posture

Sit differently in your chair now. Go on, try it!

5. Go for a run

I know I bang on about this one. But the chemicals released after exercise make you feel ten times better than any drug and they don’t give you any side-effects. However, you may feel a little stiff the next morning!

6. Ask questions about your questions

When you’re getting frustrated and angry it’s probably because you are losing an argument with reality. So if you think some group of people at work are stressing you out, go into that thought in greater detail.

  • Who are they?
  • Are they really stressing me?
  • Are they stressing themselves?
  • Are they stressing each other?
  • Are they all stressing me equally or are some worse than others?
  • OK are some of them not really purposely stressing me at all?
  • What is stress?
  • How does it feel when I’m stressed?
  • Whose fault is it?
  • Can I live with it?

You will find your negative thoughts are just open loops of generalisations that should be ignored as you have better things to do.

7. Exercise your brain

The brain is like a muscle that needs to be kept in shape. I’m not asking you to go back to school here. That clearly wouldn’t get you high. But you could research some fascinating subject on the internet, like the mind-numbing hugeness of the universe. That’ll get you going!

8. Breathe

Stop, relax and be aware of your breathing from the stomach.

9. Let go of things from the past

Still thinking of that time those boys beat you up years ago? Me, too. But don’t! It didn’t happen in a very real sense because the physical wounds have healed and keeping the mental ones hurting makes as much sense as the beating did. Your memory is unreliable, don’t feed it with brain time. Concentrate on the present moment. The present moment is good.

10. Say this to yourself

Everyday in every way I’m getting better and better. Say it! It’s true. Say this to yourself everyday, it works, funnily enough!

11.Stop dreaming/fear about the future

You’re forgetting the present. The present’s good.

12. People watching

Sit in a cafe behind the window or on a bench in a public place and watch the people go by. Look for the kindness in their faces. You’ll be amazed that the world is actually full of beautiful, kind people!

So what do you think?

Damn my superstition! I was going to add “have sex” but that would have made it 13!

What do you think about these ways to feel good without drugs? Do they work for you or do you have suggestions of your own?

Hey, not struggling with putting down the pipe but was considering picking one up again after 8 years of sobriety. Read your article and feel energized the weed is not the answer to my questions. Maybe it’s beneficial to others but sincerely, thank you.

        • Thank you, Manonymous, I can’t tell you how much it means to get a positive comment. I am trying hard to write articles that will energize people as much as I can and I really hope you got something positive here.

You’re right. There’s more to life than sitting down and smoking a pipe. :)

  2. Are you serios? Those are the worst things to do instead of smoking weed. That makes me never want to quit. Well time to go spark some White Widow out of my vapetron. Good luck to people who follow the 12 steps.

Thank you very much for this site – it has good info that if someone tries seriously will be a good first start to getting off the depressing weed.

    Keep up the amazing work!

  4. Lol this is what to do to get a good high, plus you ever heard of ignorance is bliss? Well thatswhat I was from 15 and below I know what a high actually is not a headrush from blood flow from running around and resting lol , or getting up fast. Also sleep all day n wake up at like 9 at night ull feel trippy not high if u go into a bright room semi-bright… But for those who haven’t did any other substances or drugs to get high, don’t! After you know what a stronger high feels like or a mixture unless it’s alcohol that’s an exeption but not recomended untill u get a tolerance but I can say my weed highs and experiance is lessened sooo much from me reaching to syrup or pills to get by when I’m dry trust me! Only feel the weed high and ull know ignorance is bliss when u disobey this tip.

  5. I’m still pretty new to the pipe and weed. I must say though, I really like the feeling I get while I’m high. Not a worry in the world. Except for one. You see, my girlfriend doesn’t want me to smoke it. I know I shouldn’t. She’s not asking very much of me. But the stress I usually have completely dissipates when I get high. I want BOTH of us to be happy though. I’ll try a few of the things you’ve mentioned, and maybe add a couple of my own. I guess we’ll see if life really IS worth living without the weed. Thanks for the tips.

  6. The trick is to not want the weed high. Go here: http://www.giveupweed.com/how-to-stop-smoking-weed-ebook/ and download the e-book.

I quit smoking by the self-hypnosis method that I detail in the penultimate chapter of the e-book, “Give up smoking weed my way”. Have you tried to give this method a go?

  7. Appreciating the hard work you put into your blog and detailed information you offer.

It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed information. Excellent read!
